Moonshine Runner (alpha)

This'll be my first game developed as a "real" developer. Follow development on My Twitter. If you wanna check out previous projects made while I was in college, check out my Itch profile.

What is this? How the hell do I play it?

Moonshine Runner is about running moonshine, plain and simple. Gameplay is broken up into four stages: Brew, Drive, Barter, and Buy.

Stage 1: Brew

In the brew stage, there's not much you can do but hit that brew button. You will end up brewing moonshine of a certain quality (1,2, or 3 stars), in a certain quantity.

These are chance-based, but you can improve your odds by upgrading your still later.

Stage 2: Drive

Here's the bulk of the gameplay.

Pick a route that'll give you the best price for your shine, but look out! If a route's heat level is too high for your car, you'll be spotted for sure!

You'll roll 2 dice, and you can apply the face value of 1 die to your speed, and the other to your stealth. You want to drive fast enough to make it to the end without being discovered, or you can play it safe and try to make it slow & steady.

If you're spotted, it'll trigger a chase - you'll have to make it to the end before the cops form a blockade and impound your ride! All the while, they'll be trying to ram you. If your car's health drops to zero, you'll lose your cargo but you'll keep your ride.

Stage 3: Barter

Roll a die to haggle for the best price you can get!

Stage 4: Buy

Here's where you can finally upgrade that rustbucket of yours at the Garage, or save up to buy a new one at the Auction House! You can also visit your Still to make improvements to it.

Tips

  • Balance out your Car's Cargo Capacity and your Still's Brew Quantity.  There's no point making room for Moonshine that's not getting distilled, nor for making more Moonshine than you can carry!
  • Route Heat may be intimidating, but if your car's fast enough you won't have to give it a second thought!
  • Try Out Different Car Classes. The Truck class can carry much more moonshine and take a lot more abuse, but it's not fast! The Commuter class blends in and can stay under the radar better than anything. The Muscle Car class has a little more trunk space and a lot more speed! Look out for more advanced classes, too...
